PSA Proclamation of Civil Emergency and established a curfew

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
APRIL 13, 2020
As you are probably already aware, the Covid 19 virus has created a global pandemic which has infected approximately 1.9 million persons and contributed to the deaths of over 118,000. The infections and deaths within New Mexico continue to rise. On Friday April 10, 2020, Mayor Louie Trujillo issued a Proclamation of Civil Emergency and established a curfew, between the hours of 9:00p.m. and 6:00a.m., for all persons within the city limits of Las Vegas. These actions were taken based on the City of Las Vegas City Council Resolution 20-15, declaring a health emergency in the City of Las Vegas. The Resolution authorized Mayor Trujillo and the City Manager to conduct emergency measures to safeguard the public health, safety and welfare of City residents and visitors. The purpose of the Mayor’s Proclamation is to limit the spread of the Covid 19 virus and to mitigate its potentially devastating effects, including immediate collateral damage, such as increased criminal activity, resulting from the Governor’s public health emergency executive order. Mayor Trujillo met with the City of Las Vegas Police and other law enforcement agencies, including the State Police and the San Miguel County Sheriff to promote coordinated enforcement. Mayor Trujillo also instructed the Las Vegas Police Department to increase patrols of the entire city, including the use of overtime for this purpose. Based on relevant data and the input of health professionals, the Mayor intends to limit the duration of the curfew to the shortest time possible consistent with Mayor Trujillo’s intent to protect public health and safety, including the most vulnerable members of our community. The duration and scope of the curfew will be modified as information is forthcoming. The City will inform the public of changes as they develop. Again, thank you for helping our community during this global pandemic by implementing social distancing, regular hand washing and observing the statewide stay-at-home order.
