City of Las Vegas - Winter Storm Recovery Update
Roads, Recreation, and a Reminder about Black Ice!
Good morning, Las Vegas! The major snowfall has ended, but we're still navigating the aftermath of this winter storm. Here's what you need to know as we head into the weekend:
Weather:
· Today: Mostly cloudy with a high near 35°F.
· Tonight: Low around 18°F.
· Saturday: Partly cloudy with a high near 43°F.
Road Conditions:
· Roads are improving, but icy patches and black ice remain a concern, especially in shaded areas.
· Please continue to avoid unnecessary travel.
· If you must drive, reduce your speed, increase following distance, and be extremely cautious.
Why the Snow is Plowed to the Center:
You may have noticed that our snowplows push snow to the center of the road. This is done for two important reasons:
1. Life Safety: It ensures our emergency responders can access all areas of the city, including your homes, in case of an emergency. This also allows you to leave in the event of an emergency.
2. Reduced Shoveling: It minimizes the amount of snow that residents have to shovel from their driveways and sidewalks.
Recreation Center Closure:
The City Recreation Center will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, November 9th, for all activities. This closure allows our crews to clear snow and ice from the parking lot and surrounding areas to ensure safety. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Stay Vigilant:
· Even though the snow has stopped, please remain vigilant about icy conditions.
· Watch for black ice, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas.
· Report any hazardous road conditions to the City by calling (505) 425-7504.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience as we work to restore our city to its full capacity!
