PSA 3/18/2025 3:30 p.m.: Dust Storm Warning Issued for Western San Miguel County

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Dust Storm Warning for Western San Miguel County in northeastern New Mexico, effective until 5:15 PM MDT.
At 3:18 PM MDT, an area of blowing dust was reported over western San Miguel County, moving eastward. This storm brings winds exceeding 60 mph and reduced visibility to less than a quarter mile, creating dangerous and life-threatening travel conditions.
The areas impacted include Las Vegas, Pecos, Ribera, Villanueva, Tecolote, Romeroville, Upper Colonias, Rowe, and Montezuma.
Several highways are affected, including State Road 518 (Mile Markers 1-5), State Road 63 (Mile Markers 0-7), Highway 285 (Mile Markers 252-255), State Road 283 (Mile Markers 1-12, near Mile Marker 14), Interstate 25 (Mile Markers 303-354), State Road 65 (Mile Markers 1-9), and State Road 104 (Mile Markers 1-6).
Motorists are urged to not drive into a dust storm. PULL ASIDE, STAY ALIVE! Dust storms cause hazardous driving conditions, with visibility reduced to near zero. If you find yourself caught in a dust storm, pull off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake.
