A High Wind Warning and Red Flag Warning have been issued for Las Vegas and surrounding areas from 11:00 a.m. today until 7:00 p.m. this evening. Southwest winds of 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected, along with relative humidity dropping to 10-20%. These conditions pose a significant fire risk due to the dry weather.
Dangerous crosswinds and blowing dust will reduce visibility, making travel hazardous. To minimize fire danger, all outdoor activities should be avoided, and open burning is prohibited within city limits.
City officials are also urging residents to prepare for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), which is a precautionary measure to prevent wildfires. As of now, there is NO SCHEDULED SHUTOFF for the area, but officials are closely monitoring the situation. If power outages occur, strong winds may bring down trees and power lines.
For non-emergency inquiries, contact Las Vegas Dispatch at 505-425-7504. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1. For power outage updates, call PNM at 888-342-5766 or sign up for outage alerts by texting #ALERT to 78766 if you're in a PNM service area.
If there are no power outages, City of Las Vegas Community Services (including the library, museum, recreation center, and senior centers) will continue to operate on their normal schedule. Any changes due to electrical outages will be communicated to the public.
