PSA 7/25/24 Water Update for the City of Las Vegas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 25, 2024

Water Update for the City of Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NM - Residents and businesses are maintaining active water conservation efforts, with daily consumption consistently below the average of around 1 million gallons per day. This ongoing effort is crucial for sustainable water management, ensuring that resources are preserved and available for future needs. By maintaining this level of conservation, the community is playing a significant role in managing water usage effectively.

The City has increased water reserves slightly to 5.7 million gallons and the water treatment plant continues to treat approximately 1.1 million gallons of water daily. By bolstering water reserves, the City enhances its ability to meet the community's water needs even during periods of increased demand or unexpected disruptions. Simultaneously, the ongoing treatment of water ensures that the supply remains safe and of high quality for residents and businesses.

During a recent lull in storm activity, contractors have continued to utilize the time to advance the installation of the pre-water treatment plant. This phase involves streamlining the setup and conducting operational tests to guarantee the plant operates effectively.

In the next few days, the pre-water treatment plant will undergo water sampling and approval processes from relevant state agencies. These steps are critical to ensure that the treatment plant meets regulatory standards for water quality and safety.

As a reminder, while most businesses in Las Vegas have resumed operations at full capacity without restrictions, there are specific measures that remain in place for certain sectors:

·Laundromats: These facilities are limited to operation on specific days—Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays only.

·Car Washes: All car washes will continue to remain closed until further notice.

·Restaurants: To minimize dishwashing and conserve water, restaurants are using disposable paper products such as paper plates, cups, and plastic ware.

These measures are part of the city's strategy to manage resources effectively and ensure public health and safety during this period. It's important for residents and businesses to adhere to these guidelines until further updates are provided. We want to thank all residents for continuing to work together and remaining as patient as work through this crisis
